Day 5 - Completed Game
And that is a completed game! While I technically have until Sunday evening to finish, I've got some family commitments this weekend, so unless someone finds a game-breaking bug this will be the 7DRL version.
Today, I was able to add "enemy" letters onto the map (if the difficulty mode is configured to include them). These letters are not needed for your selected word, and will try to infect your word if they attack you. The only way to remove them is to find the correct letter for the word, but if the entire word is filled with incorrect letters then you will lose the game.
Overall, I'm reasonably satisfied with my result. I do have a few features that I had hoped to include, but after some thought I decided that they were lower priority than getting the enemy letters working. Some examples include:
- Sound effects
- Audio reading of the various messages
- Alternate map generation algorithms (based on difficulty mode configuration)
- Creating a custom icon for the executable
I did attempt to unit test as much as I could justify to myself as I went along, but due to the time constraints of the jam I wasn't able to unit test everything. I wish that I could have taken a little more time to enjoy the puzzle of figuring out a good unit test for everything, but perhaps that will be a project for another time.
