Day 4 - Initial Instruction Choice
Everything went really well today, and I feel like I made a lot of good progress. I got the UI hooked up to the point where it lets you select a set of 5 instructions for your robot. Hopefully it is pretty intuitive as to what the instructions will cause the robot to do, although that part hasn't been created yet. I got some good feedback from my wife, and I've got four or five minor tweaks to make before I move on to the actual program execution.
All of the appearances for the instructions is defined in a data file, so it should be easy to tweak if I need to later on.
Hopefully the gif I added as the image for the post will let you see it in action!
Tomorrow, I'm going to add the functionality to hit Enter and have the robot actually carry out your program, then clear the instruction register to let you program the next few steps. If I have time, I'll even add in an overlay with a preview of the path the robot will take, with the current program. That's something I'm really excited about, as it will make the whole game much easier to predict what your robot will do. Of course, that overlay won't take into account any actions by any other robots that are in the race with you...
