Development Day 5: Spellcasting!
This will have to be quick, as it is after midnight at my location, but I am incredibly excited as I've finished the framework for spellcasting! I started working on this last night after posting the first version of the game, and spent most of this evening finishing it up, getting some of the kinks worked out, and creating new types of spell effects.
The current spells in the game are placeholders for the spells that will be created by runes, although it will be possible to create spells very similar to these if I have the right runes. However, each spell that I added was used to assist in testing one of the new effect types, and its just a matter of data differences to add new spell types along these same lines.
Currently, you can only cast spells that are centered on yourself, and they will either target only you or any square within a certain radius. The first thing on my list for tomorrow is updating the UI to allow you to choose a different target location for your spells.
With these abilities, it is actually possible to kill every monster on the level now! Just press 'z' to open the spell selection menu, and press the corresponding letter to select a spell. I plan to add a hotkey system in the future, to let you cast a favorite spell with just one key.
The latest version with four spells is now available for download, so go have fun killing things!
