Development Day 6: Additional Spell Types

Today was spent entirely in adding new types of spells that can be cast.  Most of the time was taken up in adding new types of spell areas and targeting types, with a little bit of tweaking and bugfixing.  The spell list has been significantly expanded, and many of the spells may be cast at a specific point in the distance.  When casting those spells, the squares with the yellow x show the locations the spell will hit - be careful not to hit yourself!  There is no range limit on the spells at the moment, so you can hit enemies anywhere on the map without danger to yourself.  I plan to limit them to line of sight, once that is included.

I only have Friday evening and most of Saturday left to finish this up, and I have a significant list of features left to include:

  • Runes
  • Learning new spells in the dungeon
  • Rune Identification (based on the spells you find)
  • Spell Creation
  • Line Of Sight
  • The objective - getting a big enough score to enter the academy!
  • Main Menu with Saving and Loading games
  • Polishing
    • Spell Hotkeys
    • Menu for special actions (like open, close, and walk)
    • Help screen with commands in the game
    • Tabbing to enemies when targeting spells
    • Autoexplore

Hopefully I'll be able to make it!

Below is a (hopefully) complete list of controls:

  • Movement with the numpad, arrow keys, or vi keys ("l", "k", "j", "h", "y", "u", "b", "n").  Bump into monsters to attack them.
  • Press "w" then a direction to enter walk mode, which will keep moving you in that direction until you press another key. w-5 will wait in one spot for 100 turns.
  • Press "o" to open a door (or just bump into it).
  • Press "c" to close an opened door (you will need to pick a direction if there is more than one opened door next to you).
  • Press "z" to cast a spell
    • Choose a spell from the menu.
    • If necessary, enter a direction with the movement keys or move to select a target location and press Enter to select it.
  • Press Alt+Enter to enter/exit fullscreen.
  • Press Escape to quit.
